New to the workforce? These 3 things will make your life so much easier:
1. Confirm receipt
I'm not asking you sit by your phone. Just let me know when you've received my email and had a few minutes to read it. "Confirming receipt, I'll follow-up with any questions" is perfect — I know things are in motion.
2. "Manage Up"
Corporate speak for "just let me know how your project is going." If you keep me in the loop, I won't have to ask (and bug you). An old boss of mine said it best, "either you can manage me, or I can manage you."
** Remember, I have a boss above me that wants results on my project, which involves managing you.
3. "What else can I work on?"
This isn't like school — we don't complete assignments and then wait for the next one. The business is a constantly evolving machine.
Asking this question helps you in 2 ways:
3a. You're seen as a "team player" and interested in moving the business forward.
3b π₯π₯π₯. You will know what is going on in the business and won't get caught with a Friday afternoon request you can't fulfill.
β¬οΈ This one is a game changer, and you might find you have a more active interest in the business overall when your involvement comes from your own initiative, as opposed to just having stuff handed to you.
Think it over. Give these a try this week.
